Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent to the outside provider that operates that search. The provider processes the query and supplies the results. Audubon County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
When you email us, we retain the message as needed to respond. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by a legal duty.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers may receive basic technical information whenever a visitor loads a page, including:
- Page-view dates and timestamps
- The device's assigned IP address
- Browser name and version
- Operating system and device category
- Pages viewed and time spent on them
- The referring site, when one is supplied
Cookies and Analytics
Small files called cookies help measure how the site is used, such as which pages draw visits and where a session ends. Analytics services combine traffic information for that purpose. You may block cookies through browser controls, although doing so can change how some site functions behave.

No Criminal-Record Data on File
Audubon County Criminal History does not compile, maintain, or sell a database of individual criminal records. It provides general information about requesting Audubon County records from the sheriff, the Iowa District Court, the Iowa Department of Public Safety Division of Criminal Investigation, and the Iowa Sex Offender Registry. The site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not assembled into a consumer report or a third-party criminal-record profile.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the site's search boxes. Their privacy terms, retention periods, and disclosure practices apply to information submitted through those tools. We do not control those practices. Review the provider's policy before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Audubon County Sheriff's Department, Iowa Courts Online, state agencies, legal-service resources, or third-party tools. Once you follow an outside link, the destination's privacy policy governs the visit. Consider its terms before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may also use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select targeted advertisements. That processing does not occur on systems controlled by us.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited data can be available to:
- Advertising networks that deliver ads
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
- Search providers that process a query you submit
- Government or law-enforcement authorities acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Standard security measures are used to protect collected information. No internet service can guarantee complete security, however, so we cannot promise that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor provided such data, we will delete it.
Your Data Rights
Rights can vary with the law that applies to you. Iowa Code chapter 22 governs access to Iowa government public records, while Iowa Code chapter 692 controls state criminal-history data and dissemination. Those laws govern official custodians and do not turn this private site into the custodian of an Audubon County government file. For information we hold about you, you may:
- Request access to a copy of the information
- Ask that inaccurate information be corrected
- Request deletion of applicable data
- Seek to opt out of certain processing where the law provides that choice
